HOW TO PROSPER IN THE DOWNTURN
26 April 2010

Home-counties housebuilder Weston Homes has successfully weathered two economic downturns and in 2009 managed to sell out of five developments across the South East during one of the toughest economic environments since the Second World War.
During 2009, Weston Homes sold out of Nexus in Dartford, Barton Mill in Canterbury, The Haven in Thorpe Bay, Archers Place in Bishop’s Stortford and also The Edens in Eltham which launched and sold out during the same year. In addition to launching The Edens in 2009, the strength of Weston Homes’ strategic business plan meant it was also able to launch a brand new development called Mayesbrook Manor in Barking at the end of the year and achieve excellent sales success.
Bob Weston, Chairman and Chief Executive commented “Weston Homes has operated for more than 23 years, performed strongly through two downturns, and each time I am reminded that the reason we continue to prosper is because our focus is on building developments that buyers want rather than the profits that can be achieved from building homes.
“Unlike many other builders we never compromise on quality and during 2009 we actually increased the specification of our homes and I think the results speak for themselves especially in the case of The Edens in Eltham. The success of the development proves that a well designed sales strategy together with exceptional build quality and realistic pricing means that even when times are tough, you can keep selling.
“Not only has the specification increased but the size of the properties has increased too - if you compare their average size with properties being built 25 years ago, Weston Homes are now building homes that are 30 per cent larger, which makes them even more appealing to buyers.
“We have also set ourselves apart from the competition by continuing to build throughout 2009. This meant that when buyers began to return to the market, we had a selection of high quality homes available and could take advantage of the increasing demand - in fact, November was one of our best ever months for sales.
“Weston Homes has always been a retailer, not a wholesaler, so we sell to people who want a home. I believe 2010 is going to be an increasingly challenging year however thanks to the strength of our business strategy and continued sales success we are set to launch numerous developments across the South East.”
Weston Homes recently received the coveted Whathouse? Award for Best Medium Housebuilder for the second consecutive year which highlighted the company’s successful history as no other property developer has recorded such an achievement.
The Weston Homes portfolio features a range of developments suitable for all buyers from luxury homes within the award-winning Bridges Wharf in Battersea and the stunning Mayfield Grange in East Sussex to perfect first-time buyer apartments at Morello Quarter in Basildon and New Mercia in Hitchin
